Solar Security Light
A solar security light can be installed quick and easy. The security light can either be one complete unit or can have a separate solar panel. These lights can add extra security where no electricity is available
Solar powered security lights come on at night when you walk into an area - they are available from a number of different companies. Prices start from £25 and a typical system comprises of the PIR and lighting unit, which incorporates a small battery, and a separate small solar panel.
We have recently conducted a nine month test of a number of solar security lights. Our findings and recommendations are here:
In terms of light quality, the units vary considerably. Most use LED lighting which provides a relatively weak light - good enough to find house keys and avoid tripping over anything, but not really much better than that.
It is worth looking for the units that do not use LED lighting. Westfalia sell a halogen based system which provides a superb light which is bright enough to illuminate a large area.

|Solar Electricity Handbook|
The Solar Electricity Handbook is a simple, practical guide to using electric solar panels and designing and installing photovoltaic PV systems.
The Solar Electricity Handbook assumes no previous knowledge of solar power systems, it explains how panels work, how they can be used and explains the steps you need to take to successfully design and install a electric photovoltaic system from scratch.
