Glass Recycling

Energy saving green house

Glass recycling is one of the easiest ways to recycle, there are so many bottle banks around the country and many councils have put in place kerbside collections.

If glass is thrown away with your household waste and put into landfill it will never decompose.

Glass can be recycled again and again.

Recycling one glass bottle will save enough energy to power a computer for up to 25 minutes.

How can I recycle glass?

If a glass bottle is returnable, make sure you return it as this is more efficient than recycling it with your other glass.

Find ways to reuse your glass, jars and containers make very good storage for food and small items e.g. loose change, paper clips and nails.

Most councils operate a kerbside collection, check with your council if they accept glass.

There are many bottle banks; these can be found at civic amenity sites, supermarkets and some parks.

When recycling glass, you need to remove any tops or corks and rinse them.

Glass is normally sorted into different colours brown, green and clear. Ensure you put the right colour in the correct bank.
